Charles Barkley on Adrian Peterson: ‘Every black parent in the South is going to be in jail under those circumstances’


Charles Barkley defended Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson on Sunday morning during a discussion of the NFL’s troubling past week. Peterson faces an indictment stemming from beating his 4-year-old son with a switch in May.

During an interview with Jim Rome on CBS Sports’ “The NFL Today” on Sunday morning, the former Auburn basketball star said “spanking” or “whipping” children is an accepted form of discipline in the South, particularly among black parents.

“Whipping, we do that all the time,” Barkley said. “Every black parent in the South is going to be in jail under those circumstances.”
