Lawmakers are finally on the verge of reforming Florida’s archaic divorce law by ending lifetime alimony awards and curbing sky-high payments, and that’s a good thing for families, fairness and people who need to get on with their lives.
There was a time when permanent alimony made sense, or at least until an ex-spouse remarried. But today, with two-paycheck households and the opportunity to rebuild one’s post-divorce career more common, permanent alimony has become an anvil that forever punishes people for the mistakes of their youth.
