To dismiss the idea of raising a child, or raising him now as opposed to ten years in the future, because you haven’t yet traveled the world or written that magnum opus slightly misses the point of it all. When you raise a child, especially with someone you’ve committed your life to, your self-interest becomes tied up in theirs.

I think it’s a very reasonable article. It’s true, that waiting until 35 to start conceiving will make it very difficult, not impossible, but difficult.
I am very 50/50 about kids myself not because I don’t like or want them but for other reasons… however, what I fundamentally disagree with is when he talks about having them young but still paying someone else to raise them. I don’t get the point of that! I think the reason to have them young for a woman at least is to be able to raise them when they are young and then start your career when they get older. That way you dont have to chase a career and raise a family at once, and then can continue your career on track without pauses. Generally, it’s easier for a woman to get pregnant when she’s younger and kids require a lot of energy!
I can see why anon stays anonymous. He’s a dumbass, OK, maybe just in this case. Seriously though, how do you justify breeding in this vicious world with a plummeting economy? It must be nice to have the wealth to not worry about finances. I’m really interested to see how recent breeders, especially close family, deal with the stagnant wages, soaring tuition & healthcare costs, & overall grim job market & economic outlook of tomorrow in a few years. I bet they’ll start to have second thoughts about whether or not that brief orgasm was worth it.
I disagree with the statement to have children early in life because how the hell do you expect to support a family if you’re still struggling to support yourself?
I think the ideal time to have children would be when you’re married to someone who you know isn’t a backstabbing bitch, you own your own home, and you command a decent non-hourly wage.
I personally do not plan on having children as this planet is overpopulated by 4 billion people as it is, not to mention that I at this moment in time I would consider bringing children into this uncaring and manipulative world to be an act of cruelty. Maybe when we’ve lost a third of our planets population and our economy is balanced and we’re not told to eat shit that gives us cancer only to charge us out the ass to treat and not cure the symptoms. How about a lack of bipartisanship in our own governments that control our tax rates and our educational budget?
If I had a child I wouldn’t want them growing up as a poor and uneducated person who begs for a bullshit job at some corporate fast food, warehousing or retail company working for pennies on the dollar.
Well said. I came to the same conclusion myself about ten years ago. It’s funny because a lot of my family likes to ask, “Why don’t you want kids?” My reply is often, “Well, out of the dozen grandchildren I’m the only one who hasn’t had any. I think the next generation of our family is secure enough.”
From the article: “But conceiving a family in your 20s comes with certain advantages. For instance when Luke leaves the nest, my wife and I will be in our mid-40’s and just entering our peak earning years. That means while he’s off at college, we can power save to boost our retirement portfolio.”
HAHA. Yeah, you’ll be in your “peak earning years” as your wife leaves you high and dry because she wants to party since she missed it in her 20s.
Millenials are smart enough to avoid marriage and kids. There’s no reason for either! Live well with your own job and benefits, use condoms until you get Vasalgel when it’s available in 2 years, save your money and spend it on the great things in life that don’t have a vagina like your car and toys, and kick bitches to the curb after you’re done banging them. Awesome lifestyle!
