Here comes internet radio: Automakers tuning out traditional in-car radios

The “big box” radio business is in total denial. They think that if AM/FM continues to be in cars in any form, they will continue to be in the driver’s seat. But once listeners can hear any content they want, including proprietary internet content (such as The Tom Leykis Show!) on a level playing field, the AM/FM corporate model is in major trouble.

The Detroit News proclaims “music streaming, Internet new priority.”

    AM radio? FM radio? LOL! Who the hell listens to the “broadcast” radio anymore except shriveled up old ladies calling to talk to Rush Limbaugh? Its OVER.

    yea they will still hold on to am/fm because they assume people will be slow to move to newer forms of media.

    FYI, it doesn’t matter where the auto industry goes, in my opinion. I’m already listening to the Tom Leykis Show in my 12 year old car! Lol

      2001 model car. 2010 model radio. 2011 model smartphone.

      The radio’s pretty much just an smartphone amplifier at this point *heh*
