Honestly, I’m not exactly sure of the intent of the article. On one hand it reads like a woman who is disappointed she couldn’t change her husband after they got married, even though she noticed his “shortcomings” before the wedding. It also reads like the author is making fun of women marrying a guy, and thinking they can change him, then realizing women won’t change their husbands. To me it seems the author is slamming women who think they’ll “improve” the guy they marry. The author makes so many allusions to the fact that she knew her husband was not what she’d hope before they married to make me think the latter is the point of the article.

The Onion is not real, but I do think the information in this does a good job of pointing out something that women do, which is trying to find the diamond in the rough and hope he becomes what she wants.
