Mattingly and Scioscia: time to take responsibility for your lousy performance!

May 8, 2013 — The Dodgers lost AGAIN tonight to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Seven in a row now. The third worst team in baseball, the Angels, lost AGAIN to the second worst team in baseball, the Houston Astros. The Angels have lost eight out of their last ten games.

The Dodgers have the highest payroll in baseball history. The Angels have the seventh highest payroll in baseball this season.

Isn’t it time to start looking down the bench to the managers of these teams, Don Mattingly and Mike Scioscia, for accountability? Many managers have been fired for less than the lousy performance of these two expensive and high-profile teams.

I know that these guys seem to be nice guys and that they were popular as players, but both of them, especially Scioscia, have had more than enough time over the last few years of underperformance, don’t you think?

Damn straight! Tim Wallach is looking pretty good right now.
$200MM+ a year for what? I still haven’t gone to a game because of this crap performance (and I still might not unless they make the playoffs). A managerial shakeup just might be what the doctor ordered to turn things around.

I love the Dodgers, but it has been pretty painful to be a Dodgers fan as of late.

I am an Angels fan and they have been really painful to watch the last few years, but this year is a complete joke. Arte Moreno is starting to look like the dumbest owner in baseball. He thinks that big name players that used to hit well (and are now well past their prime) is all we need to fill the seats. Not only are they not filling the seats, but they are making the Angels the laughingstock of MLB. Hamilton looks like he’s under a spell at the plate. Pujols….really Arte? 10 years of this guy? And their suckiness has rubbed of onto Mike Trout. While Trout is at least getting better at the plate, his defense has been rather shaky, and nowhere near the caliber of last year. Mike Scoscia (who himself got a ridiculous contract extension right after he bungled his last playoff appearance by putting on one of his stupid squeeze plays) also appears to be phoning it in, and literally looks half asleep as he leans on the railing. Our pitching, which used to always be the Angels strongest asset, is now amongst the shittiest in baseball. But I’m sure Hamilton will someday wake up and Scoscia will pull his head out of his ass….RIGHT, and I think marriage is a good idea. Put Jayden in charge of these clowns, couldn’t do any worse. Fuck that, muthafucka!

What’s a manager going to do with almost half the starting roster on the DL including three starting pitchers? Dodger’s fans should probably be upset at the ownership group for overpaying a bunch of porcelain dolls.

    Oh and GO GIANTS

Okay, Tom, I’m just as upset as you are about this. I watch every single Dodger game of the season and have been frustrated since Dodgers picked up Mattingly seeing them getting so close to make it to playoffs and fall short. I think the responsibility is not Don’s. It’s the boys in blue who are out there swinging, pitching, catching. Don trusts the boys to get on mound and pitch or get at bat and swing for a line drive.

    Hitting:

When you have a good hitter like Matt Kemp avg below 300 and Cruz being a one hit wonder how much is it Don’s fault? It’s OUR fault that we wanted Cruz at 3rd base last year and he only has 6 hits this year and now WE don’t want him in. Ned Colletti tried to please us and Cruz has failed both him and us.

Now, most of these games are very close which means they just need to break that barrier. That barrier is RLISP. Their OBP is top 5 at .333 but their RLISP is the worse. The players are not driving anyone home.

    Pitching:

Rick Honeycutt needs to give League some space because they’re turning him into a shaky player. League is shaky and Sario is not like he was last year. League is an all-star player who’s had good years and that’s why he was picked up by the Dodgers because they saw something positive in him. Both players have good arms their 4-seamer is over 95 mph but they are falling flat on their cutters and I have to put Honeycutt on the hot seat for that. I love Honeycutt, but he needs to give both of these guys room to breath. Let them do their thing.

    Rotation:

Don is no saint here. He had the opportunity to put AJ Ellis in instead of Ramon Hernandez game 2 of LA vs Ari and he was too careful and we lost. Don also has to realize when a pitcher isn’t doing good to pull him and go to the bullpen which I’m seeing he’s done more frequently and earlier, good move. Against Goldschmidt they gave him wrong pitches. It’s not Leagues fault when Jansen also allowed a homer to Paul.

Currently, Dee, Crawford, Kemp, Gonzo, Ethier, Uribe, Ellis, Punto to me is a fantastic lineup. I know they have their own woes right now. But, we’ve got fast players, and power hitters. They just need to be a little more active. I rarely see these guys bunt, sacfly. And there has yet to be a clutch play or a player. If they can become a little more creative I can see them winning. Don’s selection at this point has been good given what he has to work with. And unfortunately, it’s limited due to all the injuries.

My message is simple. This team is overall real good and that’s why I love them, but I can’t just put blame to one person. They just need to come together as a team. They have an off day to think things through.

Dodger owners group !!!!! Shit can Mattingly because he’s not a motivator and that’s the bottom line !!! Get Scioscia back in blue ,,,Its his dream ,,,, you will get a renewed manager that wants to be a DODGER !! plus he’s home grown and knows what Dodgers mean ,,,and he can grab the bull by the horns and slap the players around !!! plus the fans will go nuts over this !!!!!!! and get a big name pitcher and cut loose crappy Beckett, Cupuano, lilly, send KEMP down for attitude adjustments and help him learn again … Hanley is a joke too
