Damn, being a cyclist is a scary thing.
There have been at least 1,000 motorcycle crashes on this corner, it’s nuts. You can watch compilation videos from the same guy (rnickeymouse). He is up there every weekend morning (maybe just Saturday mornings) shooting all the noobs that think they know how to ride. It’s insane.
Inexperienced riders should not ever be on that road. He wasn’t going too fast, and his line wasn’t terrible but once he got focused on the bicycle he panicked. It’s called target fixation, when your brain perceives a point of it automatically sends the body into panic mode to brace for that impact. It’s the same reason you put your hands out when you’re falling. That’s why the first thing you learn in motorcycle class is “Don’t look where you’re going, look where you WANT to go.”
